There’s no winning against grandmas that have mastered the art of cooking with impeccable taste throughout their lives. My mom may have learned it from grandma, but she is short on some specific elements of my grandma’s cooking.
You may think it's love that makes food tastes good, but I tell you, it’s your favorite seasoning. How do I know? Because my grandma tells me so!
All the love in the world can’t make a Chicken fry as tasty as it becomes with Sichuan peppers. You can't argue against that. And there is nothing that hits your tongue differently than Himalayan rock salt on your eggs. And who knew that first? One that experimented!
If you are into cooking or even a professional chef, you know not all hands cook the same, even with the same recipe strictly followed from the book. And unfortunately for my mom, she will have to let my grandma’s cooking steal the show at every family dinner.
Once, I sat with my grandma to see what tips she could give me if I wanted to take her cooking legacy in our family with me to the next generation. She just says,” it's instincts. If the god of cooking intends to give you the blessing, you will know when to take a pinch of spice and when to get a spoonful. Don't let those recipe books and their list of spices for cooking misguide you.” My 98 years old grandma couldn't be more right.
And here are five common spices list my grandma specifically told me never to let run out.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon screams luxury and evokes a sensational feeling of being somewhere that smells like royalty. Its versatility for both sweet and savory dishes is unmatched. You like pumpkin tart? Go ahead and sprinkle some class on it. If you want to make your latte taste worth hundred dollars, give it a pinch of cinnamon. You want to impress your guests like they are in 5-star eatery when they taste your apple pie? Cinnamon is just the thing you need. I see why my grandma has a bag full of it. Don’t let her know. I will be sneaking some of them out later!
Peppercorns

I feel sorry for those of you who can’t handle the heat of these hot bad boys. My household is a fan of spices, and peppercorns are something we never forget to add to our cart. We like to fix four peppercorns together to bring out their aroma blending with our chicken and turkey. Green peppercorns, for instance, have a mucilaginous, musty, slightly vegetal aroma. Leathery, spicy, and savory best describe black peppercorns. Both white and red have distinct qualities. And it's precisely this mix that gives food so much flavor.
Cardamom
My yoga teacher can’t go a day without black tea with cardamom soaked in it. I even made it at home to see what it tasted like. I instantly became a spiritual yogi meditating in the rainforest for 10 years. I knew black peppers and ginger powder was a thing for the tea, but cardamom, on the other hand, is a different game. If you have a problem with your digestion, I speak from personal experience and advice you that you have cardamom in whatever you eat. It will enhance not only your taste but also your good health.
Garlic powder
Garlic is real OG! Garlic powder enhances the flavor of any food when it is added. Garlic Powder allows equal dispersion in liquids such as sauces, marinades, soups, and stews. As a flexible ingredient, garlic powder may be substituted for fresh garlic to give any recipe a rich, delectable flavor. Use as a component in a broad range of meals, such as meatloaf, mashed potatoes, hummus, chili, spaghetti sauce, garlic bread, and taco filling. Now that I have mentioned the list of things you can do with garlic powder, you can just put on your chef’s apron and get them yum dishes.
Himalayan Rock Salt
Himalayan rock salt, though it has peculiar flavor thats hard to miss when you smell the dish, it also comes packed with health benefits. It is what makes Asian Cuisine spectacularly delicious. Now that people in the west are getting a taste of it, it's becoming increasingly common for Himalayan rock salt to settle permanently in many homemaker’s kitchens. Its beautiful pinkish color and umami flavor are just mesmerizing.
